What actually makes the Prius so special? Well, it’s driven by a petrol engine and an electric motor working in unison. At low speeds the virtually silent electric motor is in charge. But at higher speeds, or when acceleration is required, the advanced petrol engine takes over. However, unlike electric cars that can run out of charge, the Prius uses its own kinetic energy - produced when braking or slowing down – to recharge its battery.
